Katie was born in Lake Elizabeth, California. The middle of 5 children, she grew up running cross-country, playing tennis, and wearing a lot of hand-me-downs. After attending college at UC Irvine, she graduated from USC Gould School of Law. While at USC, Katie worked as an Academic Support tutor, assisting other law students with study skills and substantive law. She also enjoyed her time as a teaching assistant for the Constitutional Law course. After graduating, Katie worked in medical malpractice defense, representing physicians and dentists in civil court and licensing board proceedings. She spent her free time tutoring students for the bar exam and participating in the Pasadena running club.

“ Do not worry about the world coming to an end today. It is already tomorrow in Australia. ”

– Charles M. Schulz

She then transitioned into workers’ compensation, working primarily with school districts and public entities. She began working for Kegel, Tobin & Truce in 2015. Katie subsequently spent several years working in-house for The Hartford Insurance Company, where she aggressively defended her clients. She obtained many favorable awards during that time, including a take-nothing finding on the issue of the applicant’s employment (Micaela Marisol Flores Argumedo v. J.T. Foods Specialty Inc., AKA Simply the Best; Hartford Sacramento), as well as a take-nothing finding on the issue of whether the applicant was an independent contractor or employee (Elsa Sulcer v. A Better Way In Home Care, Inc.; The Hartford).

Despite wonderful opportunities during her time working in-house, Katie realized that, as Dorothy said, there’s no place like home. She was thrilled to return to Kegel, Tobin & Truce in July 2019, where she is grateful to work among attorneys and staff who are not only passionate and knowledgeable, but who she also counts among some of her closest friends.  She lives in Pasadena with her 2-year-old daughter and a lot more plastic dinosaurs than she was prepared for.
