Matthew C. Malen began his career with Kegel, Tobin & Truce in 2010 and became a shareholder in 2014. He represents insured employers and their carriers in the defense of matters before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. Mr. Malen brings a great desire for positive relationship building to his work in the community.
Mr. Malen’s educational experience dates back to 2004 when he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Political Science from UCLA. He received his law degree from Western State University College of Law in 2007 and was admitted to the California State Bar later that year. Mr. Malen began his career with Kegel, Tobin & Truce in 2010, representing insured employers and their carriers in all aspects of Workers’ Compensation defense. He became a shareholder with the firm in 2014, continuing his work with insured employers and specializing in Civil Subrogation, Serious & Willful Misconduct, and California Labor Code Section 132a defense. Mr. Malen lives and works in Ventura County, the homeplace of many of his clients.
In his free time, Mr. Malen enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife, his three amazing daughters, and the family bulldog Bruno. Mr. Malen is currently the President of his daughters’ softball league in Newbury Park, where he previously served on the league’s board. When he is not on the softball field coaching his daughters, he can usually be found at one of their soccer games or hiking one of the Mt. Boney trails near his home.
Family and community are a huge part of Mr. Malen’s life, and this carries over into his practice of law. He enjoys working hands-on with local employers and vendors to build valued relationships and a sense of community. Mr. Malen focuses on a winning attitude and a team approach to formulate strategies to defend claims aggressively, mitigate risk, and make quick resolutions.
