Associate Attorney Michael S. Preis joined Kegel, Tobin, and Truce in April of 2018. He has been a practicing attorney since 1994 with decades of experience working in workers’ compensation law.

Mr. Preis spent his early years in Maryland, where he earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland. He moved across the country to California to attend law school. Mr. Preis graduated from the SCALE program at Southwestern University School of Law. He went on to complete his externship with the Honorable Howard Chasanow on Maryland’s highest court, the Maryland Court of Appeals.

After completing law school in 1989, Mr. Preis returned to California. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1993, and became involved in environmental law, working on complex litigation in environmental law issues for a plaintiff’s law firm in Studio City. In 2002, Mike became a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law. Since that time, Mike has spent decades working in workers’ compensation law. He has been a partner in a state-wide law firm, and a national level law firm representing employers, insurance companies and third-party administrators.

Mike has taken numerous matters to trial over time and has successfully litigated Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB) matters in Los Angeles, Pomona, and Oxnard. His areas of practice include workers’ discrimination issues (Section 132a of the California Labor Code) and General Workers’ Compensation law.

When he is not practicing law, Mike spends time as an adventurer and a world traveler. He has visited five continents. Mr. Preis is a certified shipwreck and cave scuba diver, a motorcyclist and an extremely slow marathoner. He brings his dedication to dives and long runs to the legal matters he handles.
