Fighting the Good Fight
SANA Z. SHAH, shareholder
To rescue a benefits delivery system from those who prey on it and want to bend it to their narrow will.
I came to KT&T from a civil litigation background. I explored many aspects of civil litigation and had some taste of criminal defense as well. What I knew coming in was I could not fathom how I would represent ‘the dark side’ against the ordinary person’s interests. There are two dreams a law school student has (and many nightmares): living a corporate-job lifestyle or fighting the good fight. I was a proud member of the plaintiffs’ bar and had big dreams of fighting corruption.
Little did I know that workers’ compensation defense is the arena where protecting the common interest is synonymous with protecting my employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators against the tendency toward abuse and rampant fraud. California workers’ compensation not only has headlining indictments for fraud, but the stories in this business read like movie scripts. This abuse of the system affects our society to its core. It makes the public decidedly skeptical of honest institutions and individuals, and most importantly, it robs from the common good monetarily and spiritually.

Over the years, KT&T has instilled in me a vision through an unexpected lens. Through access to experienced litigators, training sessions, provision of an open forum for case law discussion, and fostering an open-door policy, KT&T creates fearless attorneys who are equipped with access to decades of practical experience and knowledge. This is the exact environment that fosters an overarching commitment to maintaining integrity in our system.
I have become less myopic in my outlook on each individual case, and strive to see a bigger picture. I have met some of the most intelligent people who genuinely want to rescue a benefits delivery system from those who prey on it and want to bend it to their narrow will. Profiteering on the backs of injured workers is something, I believe, the defense bar is uniquely tailored to prevent. We protect the entire industry by holding everyone accountable at all phases of litigation, ensuring swift and expeditious results for the benefit of the whole system.
KT&T’s legacy will be its future – commitment to excellent representation, honed litigation skills, and protecting the public with experience and knowledge to prevent abuse of the system.
